Centenary and District Environment Action
Useful website and links
As well as the reference
material on this site, there is a wealth of online
information available from other sources and organisations. Here's just
some of them:
- Brisbane Rainforest and Information Network
- BRAIN focuses mainly on rainforest regeneration and rehabilitation at
a number of locations around Brisbane. This website too contains links
to a number of useful and relevant fact sheets and special articles.
- Save
Our Riverfront Bushland
- SORB is a Centenary Suburbs residents' committee operating since 1991
which acts for 1) protection of remnant bushland, 2) retention of
public access to the riverfront and 3) adequate provision of public
open space in the Centenary Suburbs.
- Friends of Pooh Corner
- was established to save a 138ha high conservation parcel of Defence
Department Land at Wacol known as 'Pooh Corner'. Find out what makes
this land so valuable and read about the successful campaign which was
waged to stop it from being sold off for development.
- Save Our Waterways Now
- SOWN is a community organisation working to restore the
habitats of creeks and waterways in the catchments of Enoggera, Ithaca
and Fish Creeks in Brisbane's north and west. They have an
interesting and comprehensive website.
- Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating
Committee - B4C is a very active organisation with an
interesting and informative website.
- Society for Growing Australian Plants
- The SGAP website is a valuable resource for residents wishing to
select and obtain suitable native plants for their gardens, or to learn
generally about the propagation of native plants.
- Greening Australia
- works in partnership with landholders, the community, Government and
business to tackle environmental degradation in a practical, apolitical
scientific way. This comprehensive website contains much useful
information. The Queensland factsheets are especially relevant.
- Sinnamon
Park Residents' Association - SPRPA exists to
represent the residents of Sinnamon Park, Brisbane, to ensure that the
suburb receives its fair share of services provided by all levels of
government. It occasionally serves as a community body acting
for or against development applications.
- View a Development Application Service
- is operated by the Brisbane City Council, and allows people to view
all information about any current development application sumitted to
Council.
- Urban Biodiversity Awareness Consortium - aims to
gather and disseminate information, research and build experience in
order to protect, enhance and manage biodiversity in settled areas of
SEQ.
